Ordinary, VA
The name comes from a term used in the late 1700’s to describe a general store combined with an inn. Ordinaries were so common that Virginia laws were being established to limit how many could operate in a town or village. Although an ordinary was defined as a combination of a general store and an inn, they were really popular places for patrons to drink beer and ale. These places are now known as taverns. Ordinary, was chosen as the name for this Virginia community because of its ordinaries and taverns tradition. Again, the name ordinary has changed in meaning after many years of transition.
